The Difference between Higher Self, Soul and Spirit

Recently, I was asked this question by several of my clients:

What is the difference between Higher Self, Soul and Spirit?

I know these spiritual concepts can get confusing, and if you ask 10 people you’ll probably get 10 different answers ;-).

So, let’s try to untangle these confusing spiritual concepts …

I often use a mix of these words because some people resonate with Soul, others with Highest Self or Spirit. So, I’d say don’t get too mental about it because quite frankly we’ll probably not be able to wrap our (rational) minds around what’s what exactly.

But here’s my 2 cents:

The Soul is often considered to be the eternal, unchanging aspect of our being. Our life is actually the continuity of soul, using one body/identity after another to continue our journey of soul growth. Our soul is believed to be the source of our consciousness and contains all of our memories and experiences from past lives. It’s often seen as the link between the physical and spiritual worlds.

The Higher/Highest Self I like to think of as our True Self, the highest version of ourselves that we can be, and I see it even as being ‘above’ my Soul. This is what I like to connect with for guidance, as it is the version of us that guides us towards our highest good and helps us to make aligned choices.

Spirit (for me) is more the love of all that is which we are all part of and one with. Spiritually, we are one with all life, with every person, with all that is. In every moment of our life we are expressing spirit. The soul whom you are is the growth of the individualisation of spirit.

I hope that clarifies these concepts a bit better, and I also encourage you to take some time to Google these concepts and see what resonates for you!

And maybe you have a different way of looking at this?

Feel free to comment below this article and share it with me. I’d love to hear it! 💕

    Hi lovely Gertrud
Yes I agree with what your saying but a slight difference!
Our soul monad is all we have ever been
Our highest or best self is all we aspire to be in this lifetime
Our monad is pro jetting out in to all life times all aspects all multi verses across all space time dimensions and realities simultaneously all at once
    Wow imagine that !!!!!!
We are but one aspect who agreed to certain lessons and experiences to evolve our monads understanding of life on earth and what it is to be human whilst simultaneously experiencing every other aspect
Mind blowing or what haha !!!!!!
I love it many blessings sean 🙏😇

    Hi Gertrud,

Thank you for this article. It helped me to get a clearer picture about the soul and the higher self.

The soul containing all our past experiences (the good and the bad like knowledge and traumas for example). This is why the soul can suffer, can « disconnect ».
The higher self seems like neutral to all past experiences. Like just in love, like « closer » to spirit in a way. It knows what is best for us, without being identified to past experiences.

This is where I went with my reflection today.

    Thank you and blessings,
