“Letting Go” in real time

As you may know, I’m in beautiful Portugal for 6 months to live and to work.

It’s a wonderful place: very relaxed people, comfortable temperatures in winter time, lots of sun hours and just an easy-going life.

But, this is also Portugal…

Last Wednesday, as I was sitting behind my laptop, the electricity went down. Just when I was supposed to give an energy clearing call for my Gateway to Greatness program in the afternoon 😱

So, with the last bit of battery left on my laptop, I managed to notify everyone that I had to reschedule🤞🏻

Breathe in, breathe out, let go…

My ACIM (A Course in Miracles) lesson for that day was not a coincidence I guess:

“I could see peace in this situation instead of what I see in it now.”

So, I called the rental agency and the lady came over to check what was wrong. She spent hours checking all the plugs and on the phone with the utilities company, with town hall and so on. And finally, guess what? The owner of the house hadn’t paid the electricity bill! 😱

Thank goodness she ended up paying it so I could at least have the electricity back on.

But then my internet stopped working. Yes, it really was a Murphy’s Law day!

So, I had to go into Lagos to get a new router. Luckily, I found one, so I managed to get that working again and fortunately I didn’t have to cancel more calls and appointments. 🙏🏻

Oh, and did I mention that they started renovating in the apartment upstairs, so I’ve been having to work while they’re drilling and demolishing?

Very relaxing background music, I highly recommend it, haha 😱.

The rubble and debris were coming down the chimney in my kitchen, it was all over the place.

So, to say the least, I had a great lesson in mindfulness and letting go that day.

“I could see peace in this situation instead of what I see in it now.”

In what ways have you been challenged lately, and (without any judgment!) how are you dealing with it?

In these kinds of situations we tend to react very unconsciously, from our fight/flight/freeze mechanism. And usually those are not reactions that do us, our body or others any good. So, it’s really helpful to be aware and notice your body’s and mind’s reaction, so you can choose a reaction that is more compassionate and serves you better.
